HC Deb 09 November 1939 vol 353 c429W
Mr. Barr

asked the Secretary for Mines whether he can give any information as to the progress made in the efforts to de-water the Mosside mine, Airdrie; if the pumping power installed is sufficient; and whether he anticipates the early recovery of the bodies of those who were lost in the flooding disaster of 22nd September last?

Mr. Lloyd

Pumping has gone on continuously since 23rd September, but recently the make of water has increased owing to bad weather and other circumstances, and in the absence of information as to the volume of water to be dealt with it is not possible to say how soon it may be possible to recover the bodies of those who lost their lives when the mine was flooded. I am informed that the question of increasing the pumping capacity is under consideration.
