HC Deb 09 November 1939 vol 353 c448W
Mr. Maclean

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether he is aware that the allowances payable to the wives of aircraftsmen in the balloon barrage have not been paid since 27th August; that in several cases the rents of houses are in arrears; that despite letters and telegrams to headquarters nothing has yet been done; and what steps he will take to have this state of affairs immediately rectified?

Sir K. Wood

I am informed that there are certain cases of airmen in the balloon barrage whose entitlement to family allowance has not yet been finally established. Most of these cases are due to the fact that a claim to the allowance has not been formally made by the airmen concerned. Hastening action has been taken in each case.
