HC Deb 09 November 1939 vol 353 c424W
Mr. Tomlinson

asked the Home Secretary whether his attention has been drawn to the instruction issued by the air-raid precautions controller of Rochdale to air-raid precautions pickets and rescue parties, to the effect that they should salute the mayor, magistrates, senior officers of the air-raid precautions service, police, Army officers, Naval officers and Air Force officers; that the controller has on occasion described himself as Major S. H. Morgan, M.C., commanding; and whether he will take steps to prevent airraid precautions services becoming militarised?

Sir J. Anderson

I am informed that this instruction has been withdrawn.
