§ Mr. BurginA census of the woodlands of this country was in progress before the war, and the position with regard to quantities, species, and sizes of standing timber is known with reasonable accuracy. Steps are being taken to augment supplies of home-grown timber by purchase by the Timber Controller of prepared homegrown wood from the trade and by developing the production both of sawn timber and of pitwood in the woods of the Forestry Commission and in private woods.
