Mr. David Adamsasked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that the scheme for the expansion of the Tyneside blood transfusion service, undertaken with the approval of the regional hospitals' officer, whereby membership of donors has been expanded from a normal 350 to 3,000, the estimated requirements for the area being 10,000 for eventualities, is being held up and may be abandoned for lack of financial aid; and if the request for a grant of £250 made to him through the regional hospitals' officer several weeks ago will now be forthcoming?
§ Miss HorsbrughThe secretary to the Tyneside Blood Transfusion Service has been informed that any necessary expenditure incurred in grouping blood donors, which cannot be met from voluntary sources, will be reimbursed on receipt, through the hospital officer, of vouchers showing the expenditure actually incurred. Up to date, vouchers have been received only for the sum of £23 19s. 2d. and these have been paid. It is estimated that an additional £225 may be required for future expenditure, and if it proves necessary to incur this, and vouchers are forwarded, the cost will be met.
