§ Mr. Kennedyasked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether he is aware that many of the workers employed at Rosyth Dockyard, resident in Kirkcaldy, Dysart, Boreland, and other towns in Fife on account of the lack of housing accommodation at Rosyth, are dependent on an irregular, inadequate, and expensive omnibus service, which involves their leaving home at 4.30 a.m. and returning at 9 p.m.; and whether any action is being taken to improve their travelling facilities or to provide increased housing at Rosyth?
Captain HudsonThe Admiralty, the Dunfermline Town Council and the Scottish National Housing Company have undertaken schemes for the construction of houses to be occupied by Admiralty workpeople. The Admiralty is also converting certain requisitioned property to accommodate a large number.
In addition arrangements are being made to provide, within certain limits, free travelling facilities for dockyard workpeople who have been transferred to Rosyth from southern dockyards.
