§ Mr. Burkeasked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster whether he is aware that the prices of wheat, meal, and corn 2137W for poultry have risen since 3rd September by 2S. 9d., 1s. 8d., and 1s. 8d. per cwt., respectively, and as a consequence poultry farmers are facing a serious situation; and what steps he proposes to take in order to deal with the situation?
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydThe prices of animal feeding stuffs, other than home-produced wheat, are fixed at approximately prewar prices by the Feeding Stuffs (Maximum Prices) Order which came into force on 29th September, and no poultry keeper should pay more than the prices laid down in the Order. The price of home-produced wheat is fixed by the Wheat (Prices) Order which comes into operation on 3rd November, at 7s. per cwt. plus certain margins for distribution. This represents an increase over the prewar price of home-grown, which was necessary to bring the price into line with the cost of imported wheat.
