HC Deb 02 November 1939 vol 352 cc2123-4W
Mr. R. Gibson

asked the Minister of Labour whether he will make inquiries into the case of a Greenock man who, on 29th August, 1939, was released from the London Scottish, at the request of a Ministry of Labour official, because of scientific qualifications; and why the said

of their wages, are not entitled to unemployment benefit; and is any consideration being given to providing them with financial assistance?

Mr. E. Brown

I would refer the hon. Member to the provisions of the Unemployment Assistance (Emergency Powers) Act, 1939, and to the Unemployment Assistance (Prevention and Relief of Distress) Regulations, 1939, laid on the 7th September, 1939, which make provision for giving assistance to the class of person mentioned by the hon Member.
