§ Mr. MabaneMy right hon. Friend understands that some members of the wardens' service at Leeds took exception to the form in which a decision of the chief constable (who is also the A.R.P. controller for the city) was conveyed to them. This decision was to the effect that, in present circumstances, it was not necessary for wardens to undertake directly the duty of dealing with un-obscured lights. From inquiries which he has made the difficulties seem not to be so serious as at first appeared, and my right hon. Friend would not regard the matter as calling for further intervention on his part. He is satisfied that the action of the chief constable was in no way due to lack of confidence in the wardens whose valuable work is fully recognised.
