Mr. Woodasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he can give any approximate date as to when the neces- 2692W sary provisions for receiving Jewish refugees into British Guiana will have been completed so that would-be applicants may be able to register their names?
Mr. M. MacDonaldAs my right hon. Friend, the Prime Minister, stated in the House on the 12th May in reply to a question by the hon. Member for Don Valley (Mr. T. Williams) His Majesty's Government hope that arrangements can be made to begin settlement in British Guiana in the autumn of this year. I understand that the appropriate refugee organisation in this country is actively engaged in considering, in conjunction with the United States Committee, detailed proposals for a scheme of refugee settlement.
