HC Deb 25 May 1939 vol 347 c2546W
Viscountess Astor

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty whether he is aware that, owing to lack of Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve training facilities at Plymouth, men under 40 years of age, holding mates' certificates and with many years' experience at sea, are being advised to become air-raid wardens; and will he make arrangements to afford training facilities as soon as possible?

Mr. Shakespeare

It is not proposed to form a Division of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve at Plymouth, the new Divisions which are to be formed at Hull, Southampton and Cardiff being in general sufficient to meet requirements. The possibility of forming a small R.N.V.R. unit limited to the Writer and Supply Branches, is, however, still under consideration.

It has also been decided to form a Naval Auxiliary Company at Plymouth, the members of which will be trained to discharge certain naval services in the port in an emergency. Men with sea experience will be particularly acceptable in this local Naval reserve.
