HC Deb 25 May 1939 vol 347 cc2536-7W
Colonel Wedgwood

asked the Home Secretary whether he will issue a visa, granting transitory residence to Mr. and Mrs. Schaje Schulbaum, Liechtenstein-strasse, 23–14, Vienna, 66, whose maintenance is guaranteed by Mrs. Florence Nelstrop and Mrs. M. Monkhouse, both of Disley, in view of the fact that application was lodged on 18th March with the German Jewish Aid Committee and no settlement has been obtainable yet?

Mr. Peake

Inquiries are being made into this case and a communication will be sent to the hon. and gallant Member as soon as possible.

Sir A. Wilson

asked the Home Secretary whether he will take steps by means of an auditor's certificate or by requiring a deposit with the Paymaster-General, or otherwise, to satisfy himself that the German Jewish Aid Committee, the Movement for the Care of Children from Germany, and other refugee organisations, have sufficient funds at their disposal to enable them to meet the cost of sending to some country of final settlement the children already in their charge, for whose temporary introduction into this country permission has been given?

Sir S. Hoare

I am satisfied myself that the Movement for the Care of Children from Germany has taken proper steps to set aside a sufficient sum to meet all its liabilities in respect of children under its care, including money for their emigration.
