HC Deb 25 May 1939 vol 347 cc2522-3W
Captain Bullock

asked the Minister of Health how many representations he has received to the effect that certain local authorities are not conforming with the provisions of the Rating and Valuation (Postponement of Valuations) Act, 1938, but are re-assessing property contrary to the provisions of that Act; what authorities are concerned; and what action he is taking in the matter to see that the law is enforced?

Mr. Elliot

I have received a number of representations on this matter which on investigation have been found to relate to the making of amendments in respect of particular hereditaments in the current list. As my predecessor pointed out in the Debate on the Second Reading of the Rating (Postponement of Valuations) Bill, it was important to preserve the right to make amendments when it was clear that an assessment was not in conformity with the general level of assessments in the area.
