HC Deb 25 May 1939 vol 347 cc2535-6W
Wing-Commander James

asked the Home Secretary which organisation had employed and released, in order that he might take up the position of trust that he abused, Edward Walker Edwards who was sentenced at Manchester on the 18th May for offences under the Official Secrets Act after he had secured a position on the clerical staff of the Territorial Army; and whether, having regard to the fact that another official of this organisation had been previously convicted of incitement to mutiny in the forces, the Minister will give an assurance that a close watch will be kept upon its activities and connections?

Mr. Peake

As stated at the trial, this man was a member of the Communist party. My right hon. Friend can give the hon. and gallant Member the assurance that a careful watch is kept on all organisations whose activities may be injurious to public security.
