HC Deb 25 May 1939 vol 347 c2541W
Mr. R. Gibson

asked the Minister of Labour whether he will state the number of appeals against the stopping of winter allowances received by appeal tribunals in Scotland this year; and the number that were refused a hearing?

Mr. E. Brown

During the months of March and April a total number of 1,375 appeals against determinations of need were lodged in Scotland and in 45 of these cases leave to appeal was refused. I regret that it is not possible to distinguish in these figures appeals against withdrawals of Winter Allowances.
