HC Deb 25 May 1939 vol 347 c2513W
Sir C. Cayzer

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether, in view of the fact that it will now be impossible to introduce during the present Session any legislation providing for the Government's long-term policy in respect of milk, he can give an assurance that temporary legislation will be introduced and other steps taken to ensure an adequate grant for additional quality premiums, and, secondly, to provide for the more effective limitation of imports of milk products?

Mr. Ramsbotham

As regards milk legislation this Session, my right hon. Friend is not at present able to add to the reply which he gave to the hon. Member for the Forest of Dean (Mr. Price) on 1st May. With regard to the regulation of imports, I would remind my hon. Friend that powers are already available under the Agricultural Marketing Act, 1933. My right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade is replying to a later question by my hon. Friend regarding the proposal to apply these powers to imports of processed milks.
