asked the Secretary for Mines whether he will state the total wages paid in the mining industry in South Wales and Monmouthshire in 1938 and the number of persons employed?

It is estimated that in 1938 the wages paid in the coal-mining industry in South Wales and Monmouthshire amounted to £19,076,000 and the value of allowances in kind to £445,000. The average number of wage-earners employed was 133,911.
