asked the Minister of Transport whether he will state the number of toll bridges still in existence; and the number freed during 1938 and then-respective locations?

The number of toll bridges in Great Britain is 63, of which seven are on toll roads and four have been by-passed. The following four toll bridges were freed with the assistance of grants from the Road Fund in 1938–39:

Bridge and location.

  • Short Ferry, Fiskerton, Lincolnshire.
  • Kirkstead, near Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire.
  • Sutton Courtenay, Oxford.
  • Clayhithe, Cambridge.

to distinguish motor-car accidents which occurred in the parliamentary division represented by my hon. Friend. The numbers of persons killed and injured in road accidents in each police district in Cheshire during each of the years 1929 to 1938 were as follow:
