asked the Home Secretary how many private motorists were convicted for obstruction under the Road Traffic Acts in the city of Birmingham during the year ending December, 1938?

I am informed by the Chief Constable, Birmingham, that the number of private motorists convicted in that city during 1938 of offences of obstruction under the Road Traffic Acts was 4,717.

Mr. Poole

asked the Home Secretary how many motor cars were stolen in the City of Birmingham during 1938; and in how many cases were the thieves apprehended and convicted?

Sir S. Hoare

I am informed by the Chief Constable, Birmingham, that the number of motor cars stolen in that city during 1938 was 18 and that in connection with those offences 11 persons were proceeded against and nine were convicted.
