HC Deb 02 May 1939 vol 346 cc1703-4W
Mr. Pritt

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that the steamship "Tuscania" has recently been transferred to a foreign flag; what company owned this vessel prior to transfer; and whether the owners informed the Board of Trade of the proposed transfer?

Mr. Stanley

Yes, Sir. This ship was owned by the Anchor Line, Limited, and was sold to Greek owners for trading. The Anchor Line informed my Department in December that they were negotiating sale abroad, as they had built new tonnage and the "Tuscania" was surplus to their requirements, while the sale was part of the financing of the new construction. In these circumstances no objection was raised.
