§ Captain WallaceThe number of notices served upon the Tithe Redemption Commission requiring reference to the Arrears Investigation Committee is 4,130, relating to arrears of tithe rent charge totalling £130,438. Directions have been given by the committee in 3,912 cases, involving arrears amounting to £121,261, Remission has been directed in 1,546 of these cases, the amounts remitted being in all £24,824, in respect of a total of £69,909. In 830 of these cases, the committee further directed that the arrears should be recovered by instalments: they gave similar directions in 603 cases, relating to £18,873, where there has been no remission.
