During the calendar year 1938, 1,571 appointments to commissions in the Royal Air Force were made from the sources specified below:

Short Service Entrants (All Branches) 1,339

Airman Pilots *

Miscellaneous 59
*The 1938 entry to commissioned rank from airman pilots was anticipated towards the end of 1937, and the number was 10.
