§ Mr. Lawsonasked the Minister of Labour whether he can state the amount paid in unemployment assistance in the county of Durham, and the number receiving such assistance?
§ Mr. E. Brownpursuant to his reply (OFFICIAL REPORT, 2nd March, 1939; col. 1420, Vol. 344), supplied the following statement:
During the week ended 24th February, 1939, 47,672 payments of unemployment assistance (exclusive of payments in supplementation of insurance benefit), amounting to £62,155, were made through Employment Exchanges in the county of Durham. In addition 536 payments amounting to £184 were made in supplementation of unemployment insurance benefit.
