Sir L. Wardasked the Home Secretary whether he is aware that the crews of several Spanish vessels lying in Hull are in a destitute condition; and what steps he intends to take to prevent these men becoming a charge on the taxpayers and ratepayers of this country?
§ Mr. Lloyd:The crews of these vessels are residing on the ships and no application has been made for permission for the men to land. My right hon. Friend's in formation is that some of the men are still receiving wages and others are being maintained from savings which are being shared. The question of what the future arrangements are to be is still under investigation, and my hon. and gallant Friend can be assured that due attention will be paid to the considerations which he mentions in his question.
