HC Deb 14 March 1939 vol 345 c233W
Mr. Garro Jones

asked the Secretary of State for War how many men were invalided out of the Army in 1937 and 1938; in how many cases was the disability attributable to the service; and to what final appeal has an aggrieved soldier the right of recourse?

Mr. Hore-Belisha

The number of men discharged from the Regular Army and the Army Reserve as invalids was 1,450 during 1937 and 1,284 during 1938. During the two years referred to, 2,847 new applications for disability pension awards were received, and pensions or gratuities were awarded in 1,819 cases. Appeals are made to the Commissioners of the Royal Hospital, Chelsea, or to the War Office, and receive the fullest consideration.
