Captain BalfourRequests for the establishment of an officially recognised air traffic route in the Southampton area were first made early in 1937. It was not practicable to comply with the request in the precise form in which it was made but other means were devised to avoid the risk of collision. The Southampton controlled zone was enlarged as from 29th June, 1938.
