The following table shows the quantity and declared value of imports into the United Kingdom of silk and artificial silk stockings and hose during the years 1933 and 1938, together with the proportions consigned from Czechoslovakia and Germany, respectively.

are being worked for 70 to 80 hours a week for a very low wage; and whether he will introduce amending legislation to ensure that the hours of employment in this trade shall be governed by the Shops Act?

I am not aware of the circumstances to which the hon. Member refers and I shall be glad if he would be good enough to let me have the particulars of the cases he has in mind. As regards the amendment of the Shops Acts, this is a matter which primarily concerns my right hon. Friend the Home Secretary.
