§ Mr. Hore-BelishaPrevious reports have contained numerous tables of figures mainly compiled for internal use within the War Office, and the new form is designed to present a readable document better calculated to interest the general public. It has also enabled the War Office to publish the report earlier, and give more up-to-date information. The number of applicants for enlistment was1936W 61,552 in 1938 as compared with 52,147 in 1937, and the number finally approved was 38,827 in 1938 as compared with 26,094 in 1937.
