HC Deb 02 March 1939 vol 344 cc1473-4W
Miss Wilkinson

asked the Home Secretary whether in considering names, both for stipendiary magistrates and for recorderships, the qualifications of women barristers are taken into consideration in the same way as are those of men?

Sir S. Hoare

A woman possessing the necessary statutory qualifications is eligible for appointment to these offices, and in making recommendations it is my duty to endeavour to select the candidate who appears to possess the best qualifications, irrespective of the sex of the candidate.
