HC Deb 02 March 1939 vol 344 c1479W
Mr. Shinwell

asked the Minister of Health whether, in view of the agitation in many parts of the country for a reduction in rent, he will consider the introduction of legislation designed to protect tenants from extortionate rent charges?

Mr. Elliot

In the Government's view the best protection against the charging of extortionate rents is a sufficient supply of houses and, as the hon. Member knows, considerable progress continues to be made in this direction.
