§ Mr. Sexton
asked the Home Secretary whether he will state the average weekly cost of the maintenance of an inmate of a local prison, convict prison, preventive detention prison, and a Borstal institution?

The weekly cost per inmate for the year ended 31st March, 1938, was as follows:

— Maintenance, i.e., Victualling, Clothing, Medicines, Fuel, etc. Full Cost including Overhead expenses, etc.
