§ Mr. Ritsonasked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that it is estimated that the North-East Trading Estate will provide employment for 6,000 persons before the end of 1939, and for 50,000 in 20 years; and what estimates have been formed by his Department?
§ Mr. E. BrownNo such estimates have been made by my Department nor do I think it practicable at this stage to make any reliable estimate of the total employment which will be provided by this Trading Estate. Account must be taken not only of the numbers directly employed on the estate but of the substantial increase in employment in the area resulting from the increased trade and stimulus to business which it provides.
