HC Deb 02 March 1939 vol 344 c1460W
Mr. Poole

asked the Minister of Labour what steps he proposes to take to ensure that workers, who are not entitled to paid holidays or are only entitled to a paid holiday for a less period than that for which their firm closes down, receive unemployment pay for the period for which they receive no wages?

Mr. E. Brown

It has been the position for many years in accordance with decisions of the Umpire that benefit is not payable for a period of recognised or customary holiday whether pay is received or not. I am not sure what the hon. Member has in mind, but if he knows of any cases in which he considers that the present law has resulted in hardship and will let me know, I will consider them.
