Robinsonasked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware that the railway companies are providing camping facilities by the conversion of railway coaches into what they term caravan coaches, which are placed on railway sidings; and whether he will inquire if the railway companies are being charged rates on these carriages by the local authorities of the districts in which these arrangements are made?
§ Captain WallaceI am informed by the railway companies that rates are payable in respect of the caravan coaches referred to inasmuch as the charges for such coaches are included in the net receipts upon which the assessments of railway undertakings are based.
