§ Mr. J. Griffithsasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education whether he is aware of the growing feeling of the desirability of providing free milk meals for all children at school to avoid the invidious distinction which the present practice makes between children; 1547W and if he will take steps to provide free milk for all the children?
Mr. LindsayThe provision of free milk meals for all school children would not be practicable under the existing law, and in view of the fact that over 2½ million children are paying for milk my Noble Friend is not satisfied that there is a sufficient case for amending the law. Local education authorities have power to provide free milk for all necessitous undernourished children and are being urged by the Board to make fuller use of this power.
