HC Deb 14 February 1939 vol 343 c1563W
Mr. R. Gibson

asked the President of the Board of Trade how many British vessels had been lost with all hands during each of the last three years; how many of these vessels, respectively, had no certificated officers; and what are the corresponding figures for non-British ships?

Mr. Stanley

The numbers of vessels on the United Kingdom Register which were lost with all hands during each of the years 1936, 1937 and 1938, were 10, 9 and 12, respectively. Of these, three, four and two, respectively, had no certificated deck officers on board at the time of loss. I regret that I am unable to furnish corresponding figures for non-British ships.
