HC Deb 09 February 1939 vol 343 c1145W
Mr. Sexton

asked the Lord Privy Seal whether volunteers for national service injured in course of training and/or during practice will be compensated; and on whom will fall the liability for such compensation?

Mr. Lunn

asked the Lord Privy Seal whether a voluntary fireman in training for air-raid precaution service is killed or injured during training will he or his dependants get compensation, and on what conditions?

Sir J. Anderson

The answer is in the affirmative. Hitherto the matter has been dealt with under policies of insurance taken out by local authorities; but the basis on which the risk should in future be borne is under consideration and I hope to be in a position to give full details of the scheme at a very early date.

Mr. V. Adams

asked the Lord Privy Seal whether he can make an interim statement as to the response to the voluntary National Service Scheme?

Sir J. Anderson

I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer which I gave yesterday to the hon. Member for East Fife (Mr. Henderson Stewart).
