HC Deb 02 February 1939 vol 343 c394W
Mr. Davidson

asked the Secretary of State for Air what Scottish firms were asked to tender for contracts relating to the establishment of balloon-barrage systems in the North of England and Scotland?

Captain Balfour

Contracts for work in connection with the establishment of the provincial balloon barrage system have been placed with firms considered most suitable, irrespective of the location of such firms in relation to the centres. The hon. Member may, however, be interested to know that part of the steelwork for the buildings is being manufactured by a Glasgow firm, and approximately 25 per cent. of the balloon sheds required are to be supplied by Scottish tenderers. In addition, a number of items in connection with mechanical transport requirements, and the bulk of the tyre equipment for the trailers, will come from Scottish firms.
