HC Deb 14 December 1939 vol 355 c1325W
Mr. Jenkins

asked the Minister of Health whether his attention has been called to the statement of the medical officer of health for the county of Monmouthshire to the effect that persons suffering from tuberculosis are dying because of the failure of the Welsh National Memorial Association to provide the requisite hospital accommodation; and what steps he is taking to investigate the position?

Mr. Elliot

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. I am informed, however, that the list of tuberculous patients for Monmouthshire, including Newport, who are awaiting admission to residential institutions in-dudes a large proportion of cases of the advanced hospital type. As the hon. Member is aware, it is hoped to devote a proportion of the beds in the new hutted hospitals to reducing the waiting lists in the coming year. I am keeping the whole matter closely under review.
