HC Deb 14 December 1939 vol 355 c1295W
Mr. R. Morgan

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education, how many education committees are providing hot midday meals at schools in rural districts for evacuated children billeted at a distance from school; and whether he is recommending this policy generally to local authorities?

Mr. Lindsay

In Circular 1484 of the 21st November the Board pointed out that the provision of communal feeding is especially desirable in the rural parts of reception areas where children are billeted so far from the schools that they are unable to return home to dinner. Information is not yet available as to the number of areas where such provision has been made, but local education authorities have been asked to submit not later than the 31st December particulars of their arrangements for communal feeding for evacuated children.
