HC Deb 14 December 1939 vol 355 c1326W
Mr. Noel-Baker

asked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that the average time taken by air mails to reach Palestine is about 10 days, and that in certain instances mail sent by sea arrives before that sent by air; and whether, in view of the high cost of sending by air, he will see that every effort is made to speed up the air service?

Captain Waterhouse

The scheduled time of transmission of air mail correspondence from London to Palestine is four to five days, and I have no reason to think that the average time of transmission is as much as pp days. I understand that the aircraft has been unavoidably delayed on a number of occasions by bad weather, but I am satisfied that every effort is being made to deliver the air mails as quickly as possible. If the hon. Gentleman would care to bring to my notice any specific cases of undue delay, I will gladly investigate them.
