§ Mr. Emeryasked the Attorney-General whether he is aware that at the Central Criminal Court, on 6th December, another solicitor was convicted for fraudulently converting £6,733 received by him on account of a client; and whether, in view of the difficulties of private legislation, the Government will take legislative steps itself to prevent these continually-recurring cases of criminal fraud by solicitors?

§ The Attorney-GeneralI am aware of the case referred to in the first part of the question. In answer to the second part of the question, my Noble Friend and I are of the opinion that the best course for preventing the practices referred to is for the Law Society to submit further proposals for legislation. I would also refer my hon. Friend to the reply given yesterday in answer to a supplementary question by the hon. Member for Colne Valley (Mr. Glenvil Hall).
