HC Deb 12 December 1939 vol 355 c1062W
Dr. Salter

asked the Home Secretary whether there is any rule in the public Departments by which private firms are allowed the use of the letters O.H.M.S. on their documents; and whether any steps will be taken to prevent the prominent use of these letters at the head of public advertisements of a Perth distillery?

Mr. Peake

The letters O.H.M.S. which appear on the correspondence of public Departments would clearly be inappropriate for that of a private firm, but the advertisement to which the hon. Member has drawn attention does not appear to suggest that the business advertised has any official standing. My right hon. Friend can find no ground for any action on his part.
