HC Deb 12 December 1939 vol 355 c1053W
Mr. Garro Jones

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he is aware that the Fair Wage Clause in Government contracts does not apply to clerical workers though the wages of many of these are lower, namely, in some shipbuilding yards, than those of manual workers; and whether he will take steps to remove this injustice?

Captain Crookshank

There are obvious practical difficulties in applying to clerical workers the Fair Wages Clause in Government contracts. I understand that the relation of the Clause to such workers is a question that is receiving consideration by the committee appointed by my right hon. Friend the Minister of Labour, to consider whether any changes in the Fair Wages Resolution are desirable or practicable.
