asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will state the total quantities of spirits distilled in England and Wales, Scotland and Ireland during the year ended 31st March, 1939; and the number of distilleries actually at work in each country?

The only figures available relate to the year ended 30th September, 1938, and these are:

The number of distilleries at work in the same period was:
