HC Deb 26 April 1939 vol 346 c1165W
Mr. Thorne

asked the Home Secretary whether he can give any information in connection with the accident on Saturday at the works of the British Aluminium Company at Burntisland, Fife, where four men were killed; and what was the cause of the accident?

Sir S. Hoare

The accident was due to an explosion of a steam-heated vessel in which chemicals were being treated. The cause of the explosion is not at present known but is being investigated. I regret that three men were killed and one was seriously injured. A fifth man was slightly injured but was able to go home after medical attention.
