HC Deb 20 April 1939 vol 346 cc526-7W
Captain Plugge

asked the Home Secretary whether, in view of the practice of using foreign-made patrol cars in some parts of the country, he will institute inquiries as to the suitability of patrol cars of British manufacture with a view to recommending their purchase to all police authorities?

Sir S. Hoare

I am not aware of any such practice. It is a condition of the payment of the Government grant in respect of motor patrol cars that the cars used must be of British manufacture; cars of foreign manufacture may occasionally be used on other classes of police work, but only in quite exceptional circumstances where a particular type of car might be needed.
