HC Deb 20 April 1939 vol 346 c521W
Mr. Banfield

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury what was the number of established shorthand typists employed in Government Departments as at 1st April, 1939, and how many of these officers were employed in tax offices of the Board of Inland Revenue?

Captain Wallace

The latest figure available for the total number of established shorthand typists employed in Government Departments is that relating to 1st April, 1938, which I gave to the hon. Member in reply to a question on the 6th February last. There were then 4,482 established shorthand typists employed; of these 1,417 were employed in tax offices of the Inland Revenue Department. The number employed in tax offices at 1st April, 1939, was 1,459.
