HC Deb 18 April 1939 vol 346 c197W
Mr. R. Gibson

asked the President of the Board of Trade what was the gross tonnage and the carrying capacity, respectively, of the 143 British ships of 100 tons gross and over transferred to foreign flags and foreign owners in 1936; and what were the corresponding facts for the 222 ships and 149 ships similarly transferred in 1937 and 1938, respectively?

Mr. Stanley

The total gross tonnage of the ships of100 tons gross and over registered at ports in the United Kingdom which were transferred to foreign flags on sale to foreign owners during 1936 was 422,000 tons; the corresponding figures for the years 1937 and 1938 were 666,500 tons and 395,000 tons, respectively. I regret that information regarding the total deadweight capacity of these ships is not available.
