§ Mr. Sorensenasked the Minister of Health whether he will cause a record to 254W be made of the approximate mileage of the British coast now owned by private individuals and companies and how much of this is accessible to the public; whether he is aware of the considerable anxiety existing concerning the gradual loss of coastal amenities; and when he is likely to issue to local authorities covering coastal areas the suggestions for control of development for incorporation in schemes under the Town and Country Planning Act, 1932?
§ Mr. BernaysIt will be necessary, in connection with the preparation of planning schemes, for local authorities to obtain information about ownerships, but my right hon. Friend does not think that from the point of view of planning the sea coast the advantage likely to accrue would justify the time and expense of collecting a record of ownerships as the hon. Member suggests. My right hon. Friend is aware of the anxiety felt with regard to the loss of coastal amenities, and he hopes to issue suggestions in the matter at an early date.
